Making Chocolate Lasagna
Third grade is filled with many talents, but recent events have allowed us to add a new one; excellent chefs in training! Their super rich layered treat is known as chocolate lasagna. Our class had voted to try this recipe in a Google Meet Up. Everyone seemed to be doing a wonderful job measuring, mixing, and layering this creamy dessert. We will be voting for our next week's dish later today! In the meantime, enjoy looking at our class in action with the pictures below this post!
Our class virtually met to cook
We might be at a distance, but we are finding ways to get toether and have some fun! We tried our first ever cooking mert up and made chocolate chip cookie dough dip! Yum!
Learning about Germs
It is that time of the year when we keep hearing those coughs and sneezes. We have discovered some the ways people can get sick and good ways to prevent it. Hand Washing is the easiest and best way we can help ourselves! We used glitter on our hands to represent germs and then tried to remove them with various hand washing methods. We found that most of the germs were removed if we washed with soap and water while singing "Happy Birthday.' Stay healthy third grade!

Shrine Circus
What a great day! The show was packed with so many fun sights to see. Below are some pictures of the great things that we were able to enjoy at this year's Shrine Circus! After the circus we enjoy a great lunch on the bus and we even recieved coloring books and crayons from the Barnhart and Kitch families. Thank you all for a super experience!

Slime Party
Our class made a goal for their positive behavior in music class. They were able to meet that goal just before Christmas, so students voted to make slime. We were able to create our slime right away after returning from winter break.

Helping Santa
Our class worked on a seasonal design challenge just before winter break to help build a model sleigh for Santa. Everyone sketched out their ideas in their notebooks and then selected the materials that they needed to start construction. After building, we had some amazing sleighs ready for any type of need Santa might have. We even built our own Santa to put in the sleigh! Look at our amazing creations!

Indian Art-
Students spent time learning about the Pilgrims and Indians before Thanksgiving this year. We learned many new and surprising things. One of them was that America's first people had a deep respect for nature. They took pride in creating every day objects that reflected the beauty of things around them. Each person took time to create their own artifact complete with a museum display card to tell what their object was, how it was used, and which tribe would have been the creator. Magnificent Art!

Sound
Our class has been learning about sound. How is it made? How does it move? What changes it? Are a few questions that we have thought about as we have been learning. We ended our first section on sound by creating our own musical instruments. Here are some pictures of us along they way in this process!

Fair Oaks Dairy Farm
We had a great day at the Fair Oaks Dairy Farm. The weather was perfect and there was plenty to do. In fact, we had more to do than we had time to actually do it in. Sadly, we had to leave the farm just at the time a calf was being born, but we still were able to do many things. Our students loved the movie and bouncy pillow! Seeing the 72 cows being milked on the rotary milking machine is always amazing. Several cows were trying to sneak extra rides this year on it too! We also were treated to a trip to the apple orchard where every person was able to pick fresh Pixie Crunch apples. They were super sweet and crunchy! YEAH for COWS!

VIP Day 2019
We had a great day today with VIP Day at Triton Elementary School! We are so glad that so many of you could come to visit your scholars in our classroom and building. It was very kind of you to take time out of your schedule to visit share your time. Families were able to do a mini reading skill with us with an interview to compare and contrast each other, share journals, and technology links that we use, eat lunch, and even try to be engineers for a science design challenge called "Pumpkins for Sale." We hope that you had fun spending time with us. Thank you for making our day a special day!

Triton Gives Back
Third Graders took time to add some fun positive treasures around the Bourbon Community recently. Mrs. Blue, Ms. Sears, and Mrs. Strycker's classes enjoyed painting rocks in bright colors before they added kind thoughts to them. Students from the high school came over to the elementary with Mrs. Hammond to help third graders. After a morning of painting, students took a break, had lunch, and then met back up again in the afternoon to walk around town to leave rocks in random places. Since the town was having food truck Friday, our kids were hopeful that some of their messages would be found. The kindness rocks are meant to be hidden randomly to be found. When a person finds the rock they can read the message and then place the rock in a place to be found again. The messages will hopefully make others smile.

Lions come to Triton
Third graders enjoyed getting a visit from the Lions Club made up of members in Bourbon, Etna Green, and Tippecanoe. The Lions actively try to raise money with community events like the upcoming Nelson Chicken sale. They use the money that they raise to provide services to those in the community. Dictionaries for kids is one of their giving events. Third graders each year LOVE these dictionaries! They are full of words, measurements, facts, planets, states, the longest word, and so much more! Students keep them to use in the classroom all year and then can take them home at the end of the year. Thank you Lions!

Marshall County Purdue 4-H Extension Agent
Third graders welcomed Ms. Kelsey from the Marshall County Extension Office to help us learn so many new things. She was able to tell us about the life of a cow, goods and services involved with a dairy farm, the steps in the process of getting milk from the farm to the family, and about participating in the Marshall County 4-H program. Kids were super excited to learn and they really enjoyed taste testing some cheese! Thank you Ms. Kelsey! We hope to see you at the fair this coming year!

Trying out the engineering design process
After learning the scientific method, our class has been comparing how it compares to the engineering design process. Students have a problem to solve for the town. The local pool needs lifeguard chairs for safety, so it is up to us to construct ones that are tall enough and strong enough to do the job. Building is under way for our teams. We will test their designs soon!

Congratulations Flyers!
We had a great couple of test days trying to build and fly airplanes for science. We have been learning about the scientific method: purpose, research/observe, hypothesis, experiment, analyze, draw conclusions. Our paper planes were the perfect way to practice the steps in a fun way! Our question began with finding out what kind of paper airplane would fly the farthest? There were so many fantastic designs using different shapes, paper, sizes, weights, and added features, that it was very hard to predict how the planes would do. We did have some planes win farthest in their group, and we flew until we had a three way tie. These planes flew farther than we had room in the classroom, so we took them to the hall to test out the final round! Molloy, Karson, and Grace had the farthest flyers, but everyone was a winner with their designs!

All School Assembly
Triton students kindergarten through grade 12 enjoyed some back to school fun on our first Friday back in school! The theme was being proud to be Triton Trojans, showing PRIDE in all we do. That means: Personal Responsibility, Respect, integrity, determination, and enthusiasm. Everyone enjoyed hearing the school band, watching a team race with cards, and hearing what others shared about what PRIDE meant to them! Let’s go Trojans!

The First Day of Third Grade
We had a super great first day today! I truly enjoyed meeting families and kids. It looks like we have a fantastic group to enjoy a ton of new learning experiences with! We took a lot of time to learn some rules and expectations, procedures, and organization. We will work on these new things all week and review as needed. Rules can be boring, but we tried to have fun as we talked about how they are important to keep us safe and to help us be successful in all that we do. We read a couple of stories about rules and rough days, played a favorites game, colored, cut, and even had a few little treats to help us remember how to have a great year! I can't wait to share a wonderful year with this group! Check out some pictures from our first day below!
