Meet Mrs. Strycker
I am very pleased to be a teacher at Triton Elementary School and to have the privilege to work with some amazing kids and their families! I know everyone does not love school like I do, but I hope that students quickly learn that it is not such a bad place when you do your job and try your best. In fact, maybe school will become a place you really love to be after all!
With that in mind, you may wonder just who will you be spending 180 days of your life with, so let me fill you in. I have spent my life in Marshall County where I grew up and graduated from Argos High School in 1984 (Yes, I know that makes me old, but I still feel young!). I went to Purdue University, Indiana University, and Ball State and have several degrees (I told you I love school). I have been a part of 4-H, various clubs, and many sporting and musical/art activities during my school years and my own children's school years.
My husband and I live in Tippecanoe in a little ranch-style house. We have a barn that used to be full of sheep, goats, and rabbits, but it is now a chicken and cat house! Several stray cats have came and called this home, so we have around 6 of them along with two dogs. In addition to animals, I enjoy cooking, gardening, reading, swimming, and being busy. Busy takes on a different meaning when your kids move out, but busy is still busy either way! My husband, Jon does not like busy, but he deals with it since he has been stuck with me and my crazy world for 34 years. My children are on their own now after graduating from Triton High School. Jennifer (the oldest) graduated from Purdue University about four years ago in Aerospace Engineering. She moved to Los Angeles, California to start her first "real world" career. She moved to Piedmont, South Carolina to work at a different engineering position. She tells us that the pace of life is much nicer in SC, and the people are extra nice too. My youngest, Christopher graduated as a chef. He spent several years living and working in Indianapolis, but now lives in Argos.
As I mentioned before, I love school and I love being a teacher. I try to make our class challenging, full of new experiences, as well as fun. It is important for families to be aware of what is going on every day with your kids and our classroom. There are many ways to be informed about what is happening and the level of success we earn on any given task depends on parents, students, and staff. I am counting on parents to expect and encourage the best in their children, as I am committed to giving mine everyday. Please let me know if I can be of assistance or if you wish to help us in the classroom. It will be fun getting to know everyone in the coming weeks, and I am looking forward to a great school year!
